چکیده

Crowd stampedes and evacuation induced by panic caused by emergences often lead to fatalities as people are crushed, injured, trampled or even dead. Such phenomena may be triggered in life-threatening situations such as fires, explosions in crowded buildings. Emergency evacuation simulation has recently attracted the interest of a rapidly increasing number of scientists. This paper presents an Agent-Based Modeling and Simulation using Repast software to construct crowd evacuations for emergency response from an area under a fire. Various types of agents and different attributes of agents are designed in contrast to traditional modeling. The attributes that govern the characteristics of the people are studied and tested by iterative simulations. Simulations are also conducted to demonstrate the effect of various parameters of agents. Some interesting results were observed such as "faster is slower" and the ignorance of available exits. At last, simulation results suggest practical ways of minimizing the harmful consequences of such events and the existence of an optimal escape

Agent-Based Emergency Evacuation Simulation with Individuals with Disabilities in the Population

Catastrophic events have raised numerous issues concerning how effectively the built environment accommodates the evacuation needs of individuals with disabilities. Individuals with disabilities represent a significant, yet often overlooked, portion of the population disproportionately affected in emergency situations. Incorporating disability considerations into emergency evacuation planning, ...

Activity-based Modeling and Microsimulation of Emergency Evacuations

Most existing emergency evacuation studies assume evacuees to evacuate from their residence locations. However, depending on the time of day, people’s movements are constrained not only by their workplaces, but also the necessity of picking up family members. Family member interactions, a typical activity during an evacuation, can greatly affect the evacuation process. Activity-based modeling h...

Computational Framework Incorporating Human Behaviors for Egress Simulations

Studies of past emergency events indicate that evacuating occupants often exhibit social behaviors that affect the evacuation process. This paper describes a multiagent-based simulation framework that enables the modeling of social behaviors during evacuation. Each agent is modeled using a three-level representation that allows users to incorporate individual, group, and crowd behavioral rules ...

Modeling Social Groups and Roles in Egress Simulation

Emergency evacuation (egress) design and planning are important aspects in building and facility engineering. Studies of past emergency events indicate that evacuating occupants often exhibit social behaviors during the evacuation process. Such behaviors are often shaped by pre-existing social relationships and influenced by perceived information. This paper describes an on-going research effor...
